About the Fundraiser
We have chosen two different beneficiary funds for this fundraiser; one in our past home in Minneapolis MN and another in our current home in Austin TX. There are many, many amazing mutual aid funds and organizations to choose from, and we ultimately selected the below with a focus on grassroots, on-the-ground organizing.
Twin Cities ICE Relief Fund was chosen after having conversations with our community in Minneapolis about where they see donations having the most immediate and direct impact for those who have been targeted by the ICE occupation in Minnesota. The Twin Cities ICE Relief fund is organized by Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a community-led support network rooted in mutual aid in the spirit of care and community. They are partnered with the Family Housing Fund as a nonprofit fiscal sponsor for this relief effort, allowing them to get funds quickly and safely to neighbors in need. This fund directly supports neighbors needing assistance with food, rent relief, and basic household needs.
Austin Mutual Aid Immigrant Support Fund was chosen due to its direct impact within our local community, rooted in dignity & led by community. They are currently creating a shared resource for immigrant families across Austin and surrounding areas to help redistribute resources back to immigrant communities being tortured by unjust systems. ICE activity in Austin looks very different than the occupation in Minneapolis, and it is crucial that we continue building these support networks even when it is not in the local news cycle.
